Whitesburg Baptist Christian School (Homeschool)

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” – Deuteronomy 6:5-7

About Us

I appreciate your interest in Whitesburg Baptist Christian School (WBCS) and hope that by browsing our web pages, you will get to know us better and find answers to many of your questions.

Twenty-five years ago, Whitesburg Baptist Christian School (WBCS) was formed with the goal of aiding parents in raising up educated, godly leaders. From these first seeds, WBCS has grown into a successful homeschool group whose alumni have graduated to attend more than 25 different colleges and universities, and achieve at the highest levels. WBCS students are making a difference for Christ in our world through vocations as doctors, engineers, teachers, nurses, designers, missionaries, writers, in public service, the military and communications, and many other areas.

WBCS provides the legal covering, educational guidance, and accountability necessary for promoting a thorough, Christ-centered education. We offer a strong support system through the school administration and school families, so if your goal is to raise up academically prepared children with a Biblical worldview and a desire to make a difference serving the Lord, we are worth your consideration.

We appreciate that making the right educational choice for your child is an awesome responsibility. May God bless you as you seek His will and if you have any questions or just need to talk with someone about your options, please feel free to contact me.

Our Mission

Our Mission Statement

Whitesburg Baptist Christian School is dedicated to the support of families who have a conviction from God that He has called them to home school their children. It is established to provide the legal covering and educational guidance necessary to promote a thorough, Christ-centered education. Its purpose is to encourage parents who want to train their children in the home, teaching a Biblical worldview as the goal, and a Godly heritage as the result.

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible and authoritative Word of God.

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit. He is an intelligent, spiritual and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of the universe.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on a cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that salvation is the gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ by grace bestowed on those who call upon His name. Salvation is neither deserved nor earned but freely given to anyone who will turn from one’s sin and call upon Jesus Christ to be his or her Savior.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by indwelling every born-again believer, enabling him or her to live a godly life.

We believe it is the responsibility of every Christian to share the good news of Jesus Christ to unbelievers through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We have 30-40 families (these numbers vary from year to year).  We value the personal touch and time we are able to give each family.

We have graduated over 100 students in the past 25 years.

Our graduates have attended over 25 different colleges (private, public, technical) and found employment as doctors, physical therapists, nurses, teachers, engineers, missionaries, in the military, etc.)

We have opportunities for new homeschooling moms to meet one-on-one with seasoned homeschool moms.

We have 3 scheduled meetings per year as a group to facilitate all business and to offer support.

We offer a yearly 1-2 night moms retreat. (Times of refreshment, encouragement and fun).

Our highest goal is to provide our families with a covering of integrity, and honor that exemplifies our calling from the Lord.

“Almost 10 years ago, before we were even blessed with children, the Lord led our family to Whitesburg Baptist Church.  Through the Godly families of our church we were encouraged to homeschool and join Whitesburg Baptist Christian School.  We fully trust the administration and leadership of our cover school.  We cannot imagine a better place for our family to be on our homeschool journey.”
~ Josh and Jamie Elmore, parents to 6 precious blessings

“WBCS has meant so much to our family through the years.  We have been homeschooling through WBCS since our oldest child was in Kindergarten.  That was 11 years ago.  One thing we love about WBCS is the relationships we have developed with the families.  We homeschool together, we do “life” together.  Our kids have grown up with each other and share many special memories.  We feel very blessed to be a part of WBCS.  It is like family to us.”
~Dale and Amanda Cox, parents of 4

There are many home school covers to choose from in the North Alabama area and each is unique in terms of what it offers members. Two of the main differences among covers are the degree of support and accountability offered. Our group endeavors to provide both as we seek to aid parents in providing their children with a Christ centered education.

Read more about Enrollment

We have a close knit group of families who share a love for Christ and are dedicated to home schooling their children and we have established a method of record keeping and accountability that has historically provided our graduates with a transcript that allows them to pursue their personal goals. This method is one that provides encouragement, support, accountability, documentation, and appropriate parental responsibility.

WBCS is not in the position to determine a student’s ability to succeed in a specific area or to place requirements on students and their families that preclude their God given uniqueness and talents. It is the responsibility of the parents to make decisions, along with their students, about what subjects to study and what curriculum to use.

We ask that both parents of those families applying to WBCS be professing Christians and active members of a Bible-believing church.

We also ask that once enrolled, families maintain an active membership in Home School Legal Defense Association. From time to time issues arise that require legal counsel and we have found that HSLDA provides excellent advice and help in those situations.

We further require:

One parent to serve as the primary teacher with daily supervision of the student between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The primary teacher may not work outside the home during school hours.

Parents maintain lesson plans and records and meet with the school administrator twice a year for record checks.

Grades turned in to be added to the student’s transcript at the completion of each semester.

Attendance at two parent meetings per year (fall and winter) and an orientation for the coming year each May.

Tuition due monthly – 1 child: $50.00/mo, 2 or more $60.00/mo. year round.

Students (3rd-12th) take one standardized test per year.

Many families consider the kindergarten year a special bitter-sweet time when their little one is no longer so little and is ready to begin the formal educational experience. It is often the first foray into home schooling and brings with it apprehension and many questions. Our parents have gone through that initial introduction to home schooling and can offer great advice and encouragement.

Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, kindergarten came under the WBCS cover and families desiring help and support with kindergarten will apply directly to WBCS through the regular, one time application process, which will enroll them as full members of WBCS, entitling them to inclusion in all WBCS activities, a group kindergarten conference twice a year and full support from the administration.

Requirements for Kindergarten Program:

Agree to the requirements as a member of WBCS (Policies, Code of Conduct/Dress, etc.)

Complete the application process. (Enroll before July 1st and receive a $25 discount.) (Membership in Home School Legal Defense would not be required for children under 6 years.)

Fees: $125.00/semester due in September and January. (A small additional fee may be assessed for graduation expenses.)

Bonus for kindergarten enrollment: $25 off first month’s tuition for first grade (June of 1st grade year).
