Senior Day at the ROC

older_coupleCome and join us for Senior Day at the ROC on the second Monday of February, April, June, August, October and December. The schedule for the day is as follows:
10:30 – 11:30 am    Meet, Greet, Fun & Games. FREE blood pressure screenings
11:30 – 12:00 pm    Lunch is served ($5.00)
12:00 – 1:00 pm     Guest Speaker

Amateur Radio Technician Class
This class is offered once a year in the fall.  This class is an eight week class that teaches the basics of Ham Radio. Cost is $25 with an additional $15 test fee at the conclusion of the course.
Cornhole Tournament
Saturday, May 31, from 9 – 11 am. The cost is $10 per team and the registration deadline is May 25. For more information or to register, email Cathy Maner.

 

CPR Classes

These classes, led by Mary Brown with the American Heart Association, are offered quarterly.  Training includes adult, child and infant CPR with AED training.  Cost is $40.  The next class is on Monday, May 5 from 5:45-8:30pm in the Craft Room at the Whitesburg Baptist Center. Firearm Safety and Basic Pistol Class

This class, led by Ted Meilke, is designed for men and women, aged 18 or older, who want to learn how to safely handle firearms. Cost is $20. To sign up, email or call Debbie Pierce at (256) 704-5678, ext. 713. Pre-registration and payment is required.

Fishing Rod Building Class

In this class, you will build your own custom fishing rod that meets your own unique specifications. Whether you are a beginner interested in just building a “starter” rod, or an experienced tournament bass fisherman looking for that ultimate flipping stick, spinner bait rod, shakey worm rod, crank bait rod, etc. this class is for you. Jerry Guinn, a member of Tennessee Valley Fly Fishers and the Custom Rod Builders Guild, will teach this class on Mondays beginning in January 2014 in the Community Room at the Martha Fleming Ministry Center behind the Whitesburg Baptist Center. Fly Casting Clinic

Learn specific techniques on how to cast your fly rod. This class meets in the spring in the Craft Room at the Whitesburg Baptist Center. To register, contact Debbie at (256) 704-5678, ext. 713.

Quilting Classes

Beginner, intermediate and advanced classes are offered on Tuesdays in fall and spring semester formats, August – November and January – May. All classes are $5 per semester plus tools and fabric, payable when you sign up. Classes are limited in size and fill up quickly. Call Sandy Raber at 864-9415 or email her.

Woodworking Classes

The Recreation Ministry is offering a woodworking class with the object of building a classic Hepplewhite or Sharaton Style table, constructed of black cherry, that can be used as a hall or sofa table. The course will emphasize the use of standard and woodworking power and hand tools to size the workpieces, form the mortise-and-tenon joinery, handcut dovetails and prepare the surfaces for finishing. Some woodworking experience is desired and students will be required to furnish their own set of basic woodworking tools. Cost is $25.00 plus materials. This class will be taught in the fall. All classes meet in the woodshop at the Martha Fleming Center located behind the Whitesburg Baptist Center. Class size is limited to 6. To sign up, contact Jerry Guinn at 683-7181 or email him.

Wellness

Balance Flow and Amazing Grays

These classes meet at 10:00 am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the Aerobics Room and Hearthside Room at the ROC.  Balance Flow is an advanced class that focuses on soft martial arts techniques and patterns that enhance balance, teach fall prevention and improve mental focus.  Amazing Grays teaches the same principles but for beginners.  All patterns are linked to scripture.

Christian Soldiers Karate
Christian Soldiers Karate offers self defense training with a focus on conservative and Christ-centered Bible teaching. Classes are ongoing and meet on Mondays and Thursdays at 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm in the Zone at the South Campus. Initial registration is $50 which includes the uniform and class fee for the first month. Weigh to Get Fit
Weigh to Get Fit is a 4-week Nutrition class to help you get started eating healthy and maintain a healthy weight. Learn how to eat out without doing your diet in, be a real label investigator, understand emotional eating, have a healthy heart and avoid many diseases that are nutrition related. The class is taught by Linda Steakley, a registered dietitian with the Huntsville Hospital Wellness Center, every year in February. The cost is $25.

Zumba – The Latin inspired, easy to follow, calorie burning, fitness party

Zumba Gold - Designed for exercise newbies, any ability level and any age
